Getting Here

By Air

Perpignan airport is the most convenient airport to fly to.  Transfer time from this airport to Maison Caramany is 30-40mins.

Perpignan airport is well served by budget airlines: 

Ryanair: daily flights (Apr-Oct) from London Stansted, Birmingham, Bristol and Brussels 
BmiBaby: daily flights (May -Sep) from Manchester. 
Air France: daily flights from Paris Orly.
If you find that flight prices to and from Perpignan are too expensive, there are other nearby airports which you can use.  Roads are well signed in France so you should not be put off by the longer transfer times.  The airports below are listed in order of personal preference with their approximate transfer times:

Beziers: 90mins; flights from Stansted, Luton and Bristol.
Carcassonne: 90mins; flights from several UK and Irish airports.
Girona (Spain): 90mins; excellent access by motorway.  Flights from all over the UK
Montpellier: 120mins; flights from UK with Ryanair and Easyjet.
All above airports are served by Ryanair.

By Air from North America

Easy access by flying into Barcelona (Spain) airport. From Barcelona you can either drive to Caramany (2-2.5hrs) or there are regular, direct train services(2hrs) to Perpignan. At Perpignan train staion you can rent a car using the suggested website below.

By Train from the UK

If you're looking to lighten your carbon footprint or just simply enjoy travelling by train, then look no further than www.tgv.co.uk for excellent deals on fares from London St Pancras to Perpignan.  Purchased in advance, a return ticket can cost as little as £100.  Only one change in Paris is necessary.  London to Paris takes approximately 2h40mins and Paris to Perpignan 5hrs.  There are car rental agencies at Perpignan train station.

By Car

Motorways take you into Perpignan from the North, East and South.  Please consult the Viamichelin website for excellent driving directions to Caramany.  After booking, detailed driving instructions to Maison Caramany will be sent to you.

Car Hire

A car is needed if you want to stay at Maison Caramany.  The major car rental companies have offices both in Perpignan airport and directly outside its train station.  I use Auto Europe car hire which consistently seem to provide good deals.  To get the most out of your holiday, I recommend buying a Michelin map of the Languedoc-Roussillon (costs about £6), although there should be one at Maison Caramany anyway.

Don't feel like driving at all?

A taxi will set you back approximately €100-120 to get from Perpignan to Caramany.  Not being particularly keen to pay these prices, I've asked friend and fellow Caramagnol, Jean-Francois to do transfers between Perpignan and Caramany for those who don't feel like getting behind the wheel for their holiday.  He charges €50 each way for the service which you pay directly to him.  This service is only suitable for 3 or, at a push, 4 people but remember to go easy on the luggage.  He drives a new'ish Renault Megane.
